I absolutely loved going to cars and coffee in the past, but then I started working retail and my weekends where gone. Technically I could still go, but knowing you have to go to work just ruined the experience for me. Fast forward 5 months ago. I changed jobs, have my weekends off, and I am working hard to keep it that way. 2 months ago I realized that I was forgetting one of my favorite pastimes. Guess my mind was still in retail "I have no weekends" hell.
Cars & Coffee. That first Saturday of the month, filled with flowing body lines and awesome exhaust notes. I am more of a vintage American kind of guy, but I won't deny that part of my beating heart belongs to imports. Fitting, since I am an import myself. If you wonder where I hail from originally: It's in the name...
I took my dash-cam, ran it in 120 degree mode with image stabilization, and went to my first Cars and Coffee in probably 4 years. Has it been that long? I was happy to find everything pretty much stayed the same. The quality of the cars attending is top notch and the willingness to get on the loud pedal is still there. As are the police officers that swamp the nearby area to deter too much acting out.
There is a fine line between acting out and acting out though. Simply mashing it from a straight line might be boring to some, it surely isn't as interesting as seeing a challenger go oppo in front of you, but it is safer. Just because I am standing at the side of the road with a camera doesn't mean I want you to preform a stunt that could have you end up on a curb. It seems to be something that happens all too often at these events. Folk get on the gas mid turn and they loose control.
Now in case above the guy had some skills, or the luck of the gods, you decide. But I'd rather you wait till you are in a straight line and then mash the go pedal. If you decide to go full oppo in front of my camera that footage will end up in my Cars & Coffee video. If you decide to go full oppo and wreck. Well... I'll probably dedicate a single video for that, for quick and easy viewing. Again and again. The shame of wrecking your car because you wanted to look cool on camera will haunt you for the rest of your life. And the footage will be on YouTube so others may learn. Although they won't. It's probably a condition. Much like speeding. I suffer from that one. Bad... But that's something for another post.
